Title: Qualcomm’s Upcoming Snapdragon 8 Gen 4: Rumors and Anticipated Features, Including Potential LPDDR6 Support

The tech world eagerly awaits Qualcomm’s next flagship mobile chipset, the Snapdragon 8 Gen 4. This highly anticipated SoC is set to make its debut at Qualcomm’s annual Snapdragon Summit, scheduled for October this year. With the event fast approaching, leaks and rumors about the chipset’s features and capabilities continue to surface.

One of the latest reports comes from South Korean news outlet Ajunews. According to this report, the Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 might be among the first mobile SoCs to incorporate LPDDR6 memory. However, there could be challenges in mass-producing this advanced memory type, potentially delaying its availability until 2025.

Despite the uncertainty surrounding LPDDR6’s implementation in the Snapdragon 8 Gen 4, Ajunews suggests that there is a possibility that this memory type could be integrated into Qualcomm’s next-generation application processor. The reason behind this speculation lies in the growing demand for on-device ai capabilities, which LPDDR6’s improved speed and power efficiency would ideally support.

LPDDR6 is anticipated to provide significant enhancements compared to the current LPDDR5 standard. These improvements are especially crucial for handling ai tasks in upcoming smartphones, making it a highly desirable feature for flagship SoCs.

In contrast to Qualcomm’s potential adoption of LPDDR6, Apple’s A18 Pro chipset is rumored to rely on LPDDR5T memory. However, there are reports indicating that Apple is exploring alternative methods for storing large machine learning models (LLMs) using NAND flash memory. This would enable iPhones with limited RAM to still execute on-device ai tasks efficiently.

LPDRR5T currently holds the title of the fastest RAM available in smartphone SoCs, with theoretical speeds reaching up to 9.6 Gbps. It remains to be seen whether Qualcomm will opt for LPDDR6 or stick with the currently prevalent LPDDR5T RAM for its upcoming SoC.
