BYD, a renowned global electric vehicle (EV) manufacturer, has recently introduced the new e2 Glory Edition electric hatchback. This latest addition to BYD’s EV lineup boasts a more affordable price tag compared to its predecessor and is now open for pre-order in China. Moreover, there is a second luxury option of this model with various upgrades that costs around $1,000 more than the standard version.

The BYD e2 Glory Edition is powered by a 70kW motor that delivers a CLTC (Chinese Laboratory Testing Cycle) range of an impressive 405km. This release is part of BYD’s strategic plan to expand the prevalence of EVs by offering a diverse portfolio of more affordable models. The initial release of the BYD e2 series took place in 2019, and the original e2 EVs were significantly pricier than their current counterparts.
The BYD e2 Glory Edition is constructed on the e-Platform 3.0 and boasts a maximum torque of 180Nm. It comes equipped with a 43.2Wh battery and incorporates Vehicle to Load (VtoL) technology, enabling the driver to utilize the onboard battery to power an external device with a maximum output of 3.3kW. Moreover, this electric vehicle features a smartphone NFC key, a rotating infotainment screen, and a reversing camera system. The standard model boasts a 10.1-inch wide infotainment screen, while the Luxury version flaunts an expansive 12.8-inch display.
Pricing and Availability:
The e2 Glory Edition belongs to the BYD Ocean series, with the first e2 models having debuted in 2019. In parallel developments, BYD has launched the Seagull Glory Edition in the US, with increasing demands for heightened tariff restrictions on Chinese manufacturers such as BYD. The starting price of the BYD e2 Glory Edition is set at 89,800 yuan ($12,500) for the standard model and 96,800 yuan ($13,500) for the Luxury version. The prices of the 2023 version of the BYD e2 were priced at 102,800 yuan ($14,300) and 109,800 yuan ($15,300).
